Descriptions

Executive Positions

The President serves as the chief representative of JETAA locally, nationally, and internationally. He or she provides general supervision of the business and affairs of JETAA, its officers, and committee chairs. In addition, the President is responsible for scheduling meetings, actively promoting and attending JETAA functions, and approving JETAA activities and publications.

The Vice President provides assistance to the President as required. In the absence or disability of the President, the Vice President has the powers otherwise exercised by the President. Furthermore, the Vice President shall actively promote and attend JETAA meetings and functions.

The Secretary keeps minutes of all official chapter meetings and provides information about JETAA-DC as an organization as necessary. The Secretary shall also be available to take minutes at other functions as deemed appropriate by the President. In addition, the Secretary conducts the yearly election process and represents the organization at official functions.

The Treasurer is responsible for all funds of the chapter. He or she maintains an accurate record of the chapter account(s) and provides documentation to the officers and members. The Treasurer will deposit and disperse funds in a timely manner. In addition, the Treasurer will assist the President in preparing and reporting grant proposals in accordance with CLAIR guidelines and regulations.


Committee Positions

The Ad Hoc Chair considers programs on an as needed basis. The Ad Hoc Chair is responsible for the planning and execution of the annual JETAA DC Rally. Activities of the Ad Hoc Chair are those activities that do not fit within the defined parameters of other JETAA-DC Chair positions, such as Nihongo-dake/hanbun dinners.

The Career Night Chair arranges the annual JETAA-DC Career Night each fall. It is the Chair's responsibility to secure a keynote speaker and JETAA panelists, prepare mailings to JETAA members, and prepare all handouts and materials for the event.

The Newsletter Chair publishes a newsletter approxiamately 4 times a year and is responsible for soliciting articles for the newsletter and coordinating production and mailing.

The Online Chair maintains the JETAA Washington, DC chapter's web site, developing content and links to other relevant sites. The Online Chair also oversees membership and postings to the Yahoo Groups JETAADC listserve and the Facebook JETAADC Group.

The Returnee Handbook Chair works to update the returnee handbook first published in 1995, and decides how the information can be best communicated to the membership and other interested parties.

The Volunteer Committee organizes community volunteer activities for JETAA members on a regular basis. Past volunteer activities have included Habitat for Humanity, Annual DC Cares Serv-A-Thon, Potomac Overlook Park Clean-up, and area soup kitchens.
