Japanese Calligraphy (Shodo) Workshops - Mondays or Wednesdays, June 2 - August 4, 2008

What:
Japanese Calligraphy I
Monday 6:00-7:15pm
Starting on 6/2

For people who are new to Japanese calligraphy. Starts with basic techniques: how to hold and use the brush, how to position the paper, how to ink the brush, how to make basic brush strokes. Students will use the techniques they have learned to write hiragana, as well as their own names. Followed by writing kanji in the basic kaisho style, improving their technique while learning proper balance and spacing. Knowledge of the Japanese hiragana and katakana writing systems, as well as some familiarity with Kanji, is required.

Japanese Calligraphy II
Wednesday 6:00-7:15pm
Starting on 6/4

For students who have familiarity with the basic techniques of Japanese calligraphy but wish to improve and strengthen their skill. Begins with a review of basic techniques and the writing of hiragana, proper spacing and balance. Most of the course will focus on the kaisho and gyosho styles of writing. In the final part of the course, students will practice writing tanka and also will be introduced to the sosho style of writing. Knowledge of the Japanese calligraphy, Japanese hiragana and katakana writing systems, as well as familiarity with Kanji, is required

Race for the Cure 2008 - Saturday, June 7, 2008

What: 5K Run/Walk (that's only about 3 miles) – JETAA will be participating in the walking race (that's easy, right?). Those inclined to run should feel free to join the running race
When: Saturday June 7, 2008

Time/Location:
• Walker start time is at 8:15am 9th St., NW & Constitution Ave., NW
• Runner start time is at 8:00am at 10th St., NW & Constitution Ave., NW
